Keypad door lock’s keyboards green light flashes after We enter the code, but the door does not open.

Good morning.

I am contacting you on behalf of the SmartFlats company. We work with the rental of apartments here in Brussels.

We have a little problem. One of our keypad door lock’s keyboards is not working. We enter the code, and the green light flashes, but the door does not open. Unfortunately, I did not find this in the recurring problems. What is the possible problem?

Thank you for your attention.

If the keypad of your door lock acknowledges the code entry (by flashing the green light), but the door does not open, several potential issues could be causing the problem:

  1. Mechanical Malfunction: The internal mechanism that triggers the bolt or latch might be jammed or misaligned. This is common if there’s been wear and tear, misuse, or the lock hasn’t been serviced in a long time.
  2. Battery: Many electronic locks run on batteries. If the battery is low, it might have enough power to light up the LED but not enough to engage or disengage the locking mechanism. Try replacing the battery with a fresh one.
  3. Faulty Motor: Some electronic locks use a small motor to engage or disengage the bolt. This motor might be malfunctioning or have become worn out.
  4. Software Glitch: Like any electronic device, glitches can occur. If possible, try resetting the lock. This may involve removing the battery for a certain period, or there might be a specific reset button or procedure for your model.
  5. Incorrect Installation: If the lock has been recently installed or adjusted, it’s possible that it’s not aligned correctly with the doorframe or strike plate, preventing the bolt from retracting or extending properly.
  6. Environmental Factors: Conditions such as extreme cold, humidity, or dust might affect the functioning of the lock.
  7. Manual Override: Many electronic locks have a manual override, typically a hidden keyhole. Try using the manual key to ensure the lock can indeed be unlocked. This will help you determine if the issue is with the lock’s electronic component or mechanical aspect.

Here’s what I recommend doing:

  1. Battery Replacement: As a quick fix, replace the battery to ensure the lock has sufficient power.
  2. Manual Override: Use the manual key to unlock the door. This will also give you an idea of whether the bolt moves freely.
  3. Reset: If the lock has a reset function, perform it. This can clear minor software glitches.
  4. Physical Inspection: Inspect the lock for any signs of physical damage or obstruction that might impede the mechanism.
  5. Consult the Manual: Refer to the user manual for troubleshooting steps for your lock model.
  6. Contact Manufacturer: If the problem persists, contact the lock manufacturer or the vendor you bought it from. They might have encountered this issue before with other clients and can provide specific guidance.
  7. Professional Help: If you cannot resolve the issue, it might be time to get a locksmith or a technician specializing in electronic locks. They can provide an on-the-spot assessment and fix.

I hope these suggestions help you address the issue with your door lock. Let me know if you have any further questions. Best of luck!
