Is Difient electronic deadbolts switching from the KW1 key way to the SC1 key way?

Hello, I have to master Defiant key locks occasionally at my job, and I can only use a KW1 key. I’ve recently seen Defiant electronic deadbolts in a black finish with an SC1 key. Is this only on the black finish models, or is Defiant switching to a different key?

I hope you can help…Thanks

Defiant is a Home Depot house brand, and their locks traditionally used the Kwikset KW1 keyway. Traditionally, Defiant locks used the Kwikset KW1 keyway, but it appears that some newer models might be using a Schlage SC1 keyway, which would explain the SC1 key you’ve encountered.

This keyway change might be a new feature for certain models or finishes or indicate a broader switch across their product line. The manufacturer would determine the reasons for these changes, which aren’t always publicly disclosed.

After I checked from Google and Home Depot, I found most Defiant deadbolt locks come with a KW1 keyway, but a few models also come with an SC1 keyway.

However, without specific, up-to-date information from the manufacturer or a verified source, it’s difficult to confirm whether this change is specific to only certain models, such as the black finish electronic deadbolts, or if Defiant is making a broader switch in their product line from KW1 to SC1 keys.

I recommend contacting Defiant or Home Depot for the most accurate and up-to-date information, as they should be able to clarify their current and upcoming product specifications.
