Lockly Troubleshooting: What if Lockly isn’t Working Properly?

Last Updated on March 17, 2024 by Vincent Zhu

Lockly is a simple, easy-to-use keyless door lock system. It allows you to lock and unlock your door from anywhere in the world. The Lockly app works with any internet connection; you can access it on iOS and Android.

In this article, we’ll show you how to troubleshoot common Lockly problems and errors so you can make sure your smart home security system works as intended!

Lockly not working.

Lockly is not working

If you’re experiencing problems with Lockly, there are a few ways to troubleshoot:

  • Ensure your Lockly functions properly and syncs with the Android or iOS app. You can do this by ensuring your Lockly is paired with the app.
  • Check the internet connection of your phone or tablet. If it has no Wi-Fi connection, you can’t use Lockly. If there is a Wi-Fi connection, but it doesn’t work, contact your provider to try to fix the problem.
  • Check that the latest version app has been downloaded and installed on your device. You can do this by looking in “Apps” on your device’s home screen or by checking its app store listing to see if it’s also available (e.g., Google Play Store).
  • Make sure the lockly is in range of your phone. The lockly should be connected to a Wi-Fi network with internet access and no more than 20 feet (6 meters) from your phone.
  • Restart your phone and the lockly device by turning them off and back on within 30 seconds, waiting for them to fully boot up before trying again.

Lockly notifications are not working.

Lockly notifications are not working

If your Lockly notifications aren’t working, it’s usually because of a few different things. These include:

  • Your app has not been granted permission to send push notifications.
  • You’re signed in using the wrong account. Make sure you’re using the right one!
  • You’ve turned off notifications for Lockly, or they were accidentally turned off when another app was opened. If this happens, go into your settings and turn them back on again.
  • Ensure that Your device is connected to Wi-Fi and has a working internet connection. The Lockly app is open and running in the background, allowing push notifications to be sent out.

Lockly lock keeps beeping.

The Lockly lock keeps beeping

If your Lockly lock keeps beeping:

  • The battery has died or is low. If your device starts beeping when you press the test button, this indicates that there’s no power left in your battery. You must replace the batteries with new ones before using them again!
  • You’ve recently updated the app and must log out and back in again. This is a common problem when updating an app, but it can be fixed by logging out of your account and back in again.

Lockly won’t lock.

If the Lockly doesn’t lock, please follow these steps:

Lockly won't lock

  • Make sure your phone has a strong connection to the internet. If you have a weak or intermittent connection, try bringing your phone closer to the router or other Wi-Fi devices. This can help improve connectivity between devices, which may be causing a problem with locking.
  • Close down any other apps using network resources on your device (for example, music streaming apps). They could be preventing Lockly from locking properly because they use too much bandwidth on the network.
  • Check for debris in your Lockly unit. If debris is inside, clean it and ensure all components are still functional.
  • Please ensure all lock parts work properly by testing them individually with a voltmeter. This will ensure that no one else has tampered with any part of your system before returning to our office for a replacement.
  • The batteries are drained. Please remove them and replace them with four new AA batteries.

Lockly auto-lock is not working.

If you’re having problems with your lockly auto lock, here are a few things to check:

  • Make sure that the door is closed. The door must be fully closed for the device to activate.
  • Ensure there’s no obstruction in the way of its motion sensor. If something is blocking its path, it won’t work properly and may not even activate.
  • Check that your batteries are fully charged and working correctly – if they’re low on juice, you’ll notice a change in performance from what you’d expect from a brand-new device!
  • Ensure that the battery compartment of your lockly is clean and free of debris. If there’s anything in there, it may prevent the lid from closing properly or getting stuck on one side.

If the Lockly app isn’t working, here are some common lockly problems and troubleshooting tips:

  • Make sure you have your phone’s latest version of the Lockly app. You can check by going to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available for Lockly, tap Install Now.
  • Check that your device has enough storage space. If you don’t have enough storage space, some features of Lockly won’t work properly because they need extra resources from your phone’s memory and CPU (central processing unit).
  • Try restarting your device and then opening Lockly again. If that doesn’t work, try reinstalling the app.
  • Restart your phone and tablet. Sometimes, a simple reboot can fix all sorts of problems!
  • Make sure that your device has a good connection to the internet. Confirm that no other factors (e.g., apps running in the background or Wi-Fi issues) are causing problems with connectivity between your device and our servers.

Lockly connection timeout

If you experience a Lockly connection timeout, you may have a problem with your router or internet connection. To troubleshoot this issue, try these steps:

  • Check your internet connection by unplugging all devices from the network and plugging them back in one at a time to see if it fixes the problem. If this does not fix the problem, restart your modem and router for 30 seconds each.
  • Lockly is not connected: check the connection between Lockly and your smartphone, then try again. If you cannot connect, restart your device and try again.
  • Restart your device and try again.
  • Lockly’s battery is low: check that your phone and Lockly are charged, then try again. If you are still unable to connect

Lockly fingerprint is not working.

  • Check for any dirt or dust on the surface of your device and clean it off with a soft cloth if there is any visible debris or grime (you should be doing this regularly anyway).
  • Ensure your finger is dry and clean, with no lotion or oils. Also, make sure that the sensor is not dirty either. Try tapping gently on the sensor (not too hard) to dislodge any dirt or dust.
  • Ensure you have a clear print and it’s been scanned correctly. The fingerprint reader might need cleaning or replacement.
  • Suppose you have tried those steps and still can’t get your lockly fingerprint to work properly. Another problem may be that your phone might not support unlocking with a fingerprint (which is why we recommend using Android 5+) and using a numeric passcode instead of a fingerprint for security purposes.

Lockly Keypad Not Working.

The Lockly keypad is not working

If your keypad is not working, or if you’re getting an error message when you try to use it:

  • Check that the lockly is on and connected to Wi-Fi. You can do this by pressing the button on the lock itself and checking that it blinks green. If it doesn’t turn on, try plugging in its power adapter (you can find one in the box).
  • You may have entered an incorrect passcode; if so, try entering another passcode and see if that works instead… If all else fails and nothing seems to fix this issue, put
  • The battery is dead, so try to replace the battery with a new one.
  • Check for physical damage before each button and clean off any grime or dust buildup (if you can see it easily).

If your lockly isn’t working, it might be necessary to replace the keypad altogether.

Lockly Door Sensor is not Working.

If your lockly door sensor is not working, it’s worth checking the following things:

  • First, you need to make sure that the device is powered on. You can check this by looking at the LED light on your Lockly device and seeing if it’s on.
  • Is the Bluetooth connection to your lockly device working? To check this, open the Lockly app and look at the top right corner.
  • Are you within range of your Lockly device? The Lockly door sensor should work from anywhere inside or outside your house if you’re within 15 feet (4.5 meters) of its location.
  • Check whether or not there’s any interference from other electronic devices around your home before starting troubleshooting procedures: battery-operated flashlights or radios are prime suspects here!
  • Finally, ensure that both ends of the door sensor are securely connected by ensuring each side has been screwed in properly and isn’t loose.

Lockly Display is not Working.

  • The power may be out. Check the lock button on top of your Lockly® for an orange light; this indicates that the power is out and you will need to charge it again.
  • Lockly® must be in Secure / Do Not Disturb Mode. You will not see the display if Lockly® is set to this Mode. To change this setting, tap on the top right of your screen to access your lock screen settings.
  • Your phone may be experiencing issues related to sun exposure (e.g., condensation). If you’ve been using your phone outside or in hot temperature environments, it may be due to condensation buildup on the inside of the LCD panel that makes it appear as if there is no display when there is one!

Lockly Bluetooth is not working.

Lockly Bluetooth is not working

If your Lockly Bluetooth is not working, the first thing to check is whether you have the correct settings on your phone. To fix this issue, follow the steps below:

  • Check that the Lockly app is up to date.
  • Ensure your smartphone’s Bluetooth is turned on and visible to other devices in the area.
  • Make sure that both of your devices are within range of each other—if not, move them closer together so they can communicate more easily.

Lockly not connecting

Lockly not connecting

If your lockly is not connecting to the app, check that your device is on and has a good internet connection. If the app still isn’t working, or if you’re having trouble getting it to connect, try these steps:

  • Try rebooting your lockly.
  • Unplug your lockly from power for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
  • Ensure that Wi-Fi isn’t turned off on devices in your range (such as iPads or other phones). If someone else has already connected to your network’s name and password, they may block access through their device settings.
  • Make sure that both your Lockly and phone are on the same network. This means that if your phone is connected to Wi-Fi, then so should be Lockly. If both devices are connected via Bluetooth or NFC, these connections must be enabled on both devices (iPhones have this feature hidden in Settings > Bluetooth).

Lockly initial code was lost.

Lockly initial code was lost

You must keep the Initial code that was provided to you in your box. If your Initial code is lost, you won’t be able to reset it as the device has already been paired with an owner.

Please contact Lockly support if you have lost your Initial code. Please provide your name, the email address associated with your account, the order number, and the serial number of your lock (located on top of the battery compartment). If you are the lock owner, you will receive an email with the initial code as a 1-time courtesy.

To change your programming access code, go into the app -> Lock Settings -> Change Passcode. (Please be by the lock within Bluetooth distance for this to work.)

If a home is sold or someone else moves into a property with one of our locks, we cannot give that new owner/tenant the initial code. It is up to the previous owner/tenant to communicate that code to the new owner/tenant. The Initial code is like the master key for that lock, and we take our customers’ security very seriously.

Lockly randomly beeps

Lockly randomly beeps

If you hear random beeps when pressing buttons on your phone’s screen or in response to something happening in the real world (such as an incoming call), there is an issue with connectivity between your phone and Lockly device(s). Try these steps:

  • Turn off all Bluetooth devices and restart both the Lockly app on your phone and the second app (e.g., Google Maps) on which you are using Lockly
  • Check that it’s not in any sleep mode. You can disable the battery-saving settings if they’re enabled by mistake.
  • If your Lockly isn’t responding to input or not displaying notifications, try rebooting it by holding the power button for 10 seconds until it vibrates and shuts off completely. Then, turn it on again and see if the problem has been resolved.

Lockly Low battery

When the battery is in a seriously low condition, Lockly will make continuous beeping sounds in addition to the flashing low battery icon on the touch screen. It would help to replace batteries immediately to prevent your smart lock from shutting down. Lockly can still operate up to 300 cycles in low battery conditions.

When your smart lock low-battery warning alert finally dies, you will have three chances to unlock your smart lock either by a password or APP. If the unlock is successful, the low-battery warning alert will be on for 1 minute, After which the smart lock will go to dead-battery Mode and lock auto lock in 5 seconds, and the screen will display a low-battery icon. Replace batteries immediately.

Supplied physical backup keys can be used to unlock the door. Alternatively, use a 9V battery, as shown below, to temporarily activate the lock.
