- Kaba Ilco E-710/760/770/ 790 Hotel Lock(e E-760/770/790) has been discontinued: These were the most common locks for hotels previously, and many hotels still have these installed. They are no longer available from Kaba, but you may be able to find used ones on eBay or other auction sites.
- Kaba ILCO 790 RFID(NEED FDU ILCO Front Desk Unit): The Kaba ILCO 790 RFID is a newer model compatible with this door lock and can be purchased to replace it in your hotel if needed. Ensure your existing FDU will work with this unique lock (check its compatibility before purchasing).
- Kaba 790 RT: If you’re looking for an affordable option that works with your RFID key cards, consider getting the Kaba 790 RT instead of paying more upfront by buying a new system! This unit comes preloaded with all of the necessary hotel lock system software, so there’s no need for additional software downloads or updates;
Kaba door lock parts
The Kaba door lock has several parts that make up the lock, most of which can be replaced individually if they fail. These include:
- The outside lever handle, which is made up of an outer housing and a metal trim piece for an electronic override
- The battery runs on 3 AA batteries.
- Inside trim pieces for both sides of your deadbolt make up your lock device’s inner workings.
- A cylinder assembly inside your deadbolt includes a compression spring that provides tension when locking or unlocking door hardware components inside each half unit.
- Outside Housing: Used to protect certain areas around a doorknob or deadbolt; only those mechanisms are exposed when locked or unlocked.
- Compression spring – The compression spring provides tension to the latch on your door. When you close a door, its latch is pulled by the handle and engages into an opening in the frame (called a mortise).
- Spindle – This part works with your cylinder to open and lock doors with deadbolts or handles. It’s also what holds up all of those other components mentioned above.
What does the Kaba hotel door lock system include?
The Kaba hotel door lock system is a comprehensive, easy-to-use solution that includes the following:
- Kaba door locks. These are the physical part of the hotel door lock, which can be either keycard access or a proximity reader.
- Kaba RFID cards. RFID key card encoder (RFID Keypad) and software are required to encode your guest room keys and allow you to easily print out new keys as guests check in and out of your hotels.
- A printer for printing out encoded cards quickly and efficiently. You don’t have to manually enter guests’ information into an RFID reader when they check in or out of your hotel rooms! You can also use this printer for other purposes, such as printing room key labels, menus, etc., making it highly versatile for business needs beyond just managing guests’ room access codes!
- Kaba RFID key card Encoder: Kaba RFID encoder is a vital component that operates with the Ilco and Saflok access management platforms to authorize access throughout the property. - ILCO Front Desk Unit(FDU): The FDU allows you to manage your Access Control applications quickly and easily by providing a front-end device that connects directly. FUD manages all your access control needs with one centralized unit, including building management functions such as door locking schedules, managing front desk key creation, lock programming, and hotel key card programming. The FUD supports two types of key cards: magstripe or Mifare (ISO 14443A 4 Byte NUID) keycards and Kaba 790RT / Confidant RFID locks.

Kaba lock light codes.
Kaba door locks come with a colored light that indicates their status. The following are the most common Kaba door lock light codes you’ll see:
- Greenlight: The door is locked and secure.
- Red light: The door is unlocked and not safe.
- Kaba’s door lock is blinking red, and the door won’t open, which means the battery is dead. You must replace it with a new one to get your lock working again. If you see a steady red light, there’s something wrong with your lock, and you should contact Kaba Customer Service at (888) 730-2824 for assistance.
- Yellow light: The lock is malfunctioning and needs to be serviced by a technician, most likely because a battery may need to be replaced or the wiring for the electric strike has gone wrong and will require repair from an experienced professional.
- Flashing red/flashing yellow lights (two separate lights): This means that both locks are engaged simultaneously, which could mean that there’s an issue with your system where it doesn’t recognize when one of these two types of locks should be in use at any given time—or even more likely, this could indicate some problem with your system itself!
- Flashing yellow indicates a problem with your access code or card, which needs to be reset by an authorized technician from Kaba. If you cannot access your building due to this issue, please get in touch with them as soon as possible so they can help resolve it!
- Red LED lights continuously with a continuous buzzing noise; please try to reset the Kaba locks by removing the battery holder for ten seconds, then reinserting it.
- The red LED flashes for 4 seconds. Turn the outside lever downward while the red LED is flashing. The deadbolt and latch bolt retract simultaneously and fully.
- Red and green lights flash together when the keycard is inserted into the lock. The battery is low.
Common problems of Kaba door lock:
Kaba door lock will not respond to any keycard
Kaba door lock will not respond to any keycard(including the Emergency keycard); first, four options should be attempted to open the door. In order, they are:
- 1. Verify the batteries, and replace them if they provide less than 4 Volts total. Use the Emergency keycard.
- 2. Use the electronic override feature (requires FDU and communication cable or ATLAS M-Unit and IPM).
- 3. Use mechanical key override if the locking system has one.
- 4. Contact Technical Support for instructions on using the drill point.

Your Kaba door lock does not open.
If you cannot open your Kaba door lock, ensure no debris or anything is blocking the sensor on the handle. If nothing appears to be blocking it, your batteries may have run out and need replacing, which can cause an issue with opening a door when using a key fob.
The Kaba door lock does not close.
If your doors are not closing by themselves when using an electronic version of this product, you may need new hotel lock batteries to function correctly. This can also happen if one side has been left open for some time without being appropriately closed, so ensure that both sides of these options have been completed before trying again!
Your Kaba door lock will not latch.
If this happens often, it means something is wrong with how it functions; if possible, try replacing any worn parts, such as springs or cables, so that they can function better than before.
The Kaba door lock is not working.
If your door lock isn’t working, the first thing to check is the power supply. Ensure that you have plugged it into a live socket, and try pressing the reset button on your Kaba door lock. Contact us for repairs if this doesn’t help and your Kaba door locks still don’t work.
The light doesn’t turn on when I use my Kaba door locks
Your lights will only turn on if connected to an active battery pack charged at least once since you purchased it. Ensure all three batteries are inserted correctly before trying again; if they’re still not lighting up, give them time to charge up longer than usual (e.g., overnight).
The Kaba door lock is working, but the light is off.
It could be that the door lock is not connected to your network. Check that your gateway device has been set up correctly, and try rebooting it. If you’re using a smartphone app, check that you’re connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your door lock (and vice versa).
The Kaba door lock is working, but the light is not flashing
If this happens when you’ve just installed or replaced batteries in a Kaba door lock, it’s likely due to static electricity affecting its operation temporarily—you should try installing new AA batteries again after removing them for 30 seconds or so and then reinstalling them according to instructions for your model of Kaba Door Lock
If the lever or the thumb turn feels tight (hard to turn or does not return quickly to its horizontal position), check the alignment of the lock assemblies. Loosen the mounting screws and shift the inside trim assembly slightly until the friction is eliminated. If the problem persists, check the position of the holes in the door (compared to the mortise).
If the latch bolt retracts, verify that the batteries are correctly installed. If the lever feels tight (hard to turn or does not return quickly to its horizontal position), ensure the square spindle is not too long.

Kaba door lock programming
For Kaba E-760/770/790/E7900 lock Programming.
Program the lock using the FDU and the E-760/770/790 communication cable (see Reference Manual).
Steps to activate the E-760/770/790 electronic override:
- Insert the communication cable into the lock. Wait 2 seconds, then connect the line to the serial port of the FDU.
- Press any key to activate the FDU, then swipe a PA or higher keycard through the FDU. If the green LED on the lock flashes once, disconnect the cable from the Serial Port, wait 2 seconds, and reconnect the cable.
- Main Menu: 1 = Keycard 2 = Reset ?
- Enter 8 to select the Programming Menu, then press . Program 1 = A lock 2 = Another FDU?
- Wait 2 seconds. Enter 1 to select the Lock option, and press . Enter Function 1 = Program Addresses 2 = Reset Addresses?
- Enter 7 to select the Override option, then press . Ready to perform an electrical override. Strike a key or C to quit.
- Wait 2 seconds, then press any key on the FDU to activate the electronic override. The green LED on the lock should light. The following message should appear on the FDU screen immediately or within 2 seconds. I am trying to establish communication Communication Successful Press any key to continue.
- Open the door. You have only 4 seconds after this message appears to open the door.
- Remove the communication cable from the lock.

Kaba door lock battery change
To access the Kaba hotel lock battery, you must first remove the coin slot screw:
- Insert a quarter or other coin into the small hole at the top of your door lock and turn it counterclockwise until it comes out. This will free up a small amount of space above your door lock, which allows you to remove it from its housing.
- Use your fingers to grip each side of your door lock and pull upward until it separates from its housing completely.
- Find where there is an area on top of your Kaba door lock with writing stamped into it that says “CR123A” – this is where you will find your battery!
How to reset the Kaba door lock?
It is easy for Kaba E-760/770/79/E7900 Series door lock.
You need to remove the battery holder for ten seconds and reinsert it. Now the Kaba door lock has been rested.
