My Onity lock HT24 does not open and only gives red light when I use the key card, but the master key works. Batteries are new. What can the problem be?

If your Onity HT24 lock is unresponsive and only shows a red light when a key card is used, Based on the specific symptoms and LED indications of the Onity HT24 lock user manual, here’s an analysis of the potential issues and what they indicate:

  1. Immediate Red Light with Low Beep (Invalid Key Card):
    • This indicates that the key card used is either for the wrong door, expired, or not properly programmed. To resolve this, ensure you are using the correct key card for that specific door and that the card has not expired. If necessary, reprogram the key card with the correct room information and valid dates.
  2. Red Light 6 Seconds After Key Card Removal (Unreadable Card):
    • The lock recognizes a key was inserted but could not read the data. This could be due to a damaged or demagnetized key card or an issue with the lock’s card reader. Try using a different key card that is known to be functional. If the problem persists with multiple cards, the issue might be with the lock’s card reader, which may need cleaning or maintenance.
  3. Blinking Red Light with Low Beep (Blocked Door):
    • A blinking red light indicates a blocking card was used on the lock. Use a Blocking Card per the lock’s programming instructions to unblock it. If you don’t have a Blocking Card, you may need to use a Portable Programmer to reset or reprogram the lock.

Remember, handling electronic lock systems requires care and attention to detail. Professional assistance is advisable if you’re not confident in performing these steps or if the problem persists.

Here are some solutions I found in the HT24 official troubleshooting user manual, maybe they will be useful to you.

A quick red light indicates that the lock has properly read the card and made an informed decision to reject the card. Begin by using the READ function of the front desk console. Most problems of this nature begin with the encoding process.

As a final step, you may proceed to the door with the Guest Card and the PP. Use the following checklist to assist you:
1. Read the card. What is the expiration date and time? Has the card expired?
2. Is the card valid for the proper room number?
3. Has another guest been checked into the same room, voiding the original Guest Card?
4. Take the Portable Programmer to the door. Connect the PP to the lock, turn it on, and press the MENUkey until the word TEST appears on the display. Do not push any buttons. Insert the Guest Card in the lock. The PP will display why the card does not work in the lock.

Hope this can solve your problem.

Are you using a Onity guest card and then it displays a flashing red light?

If yes, it means the your Onity HT24 locks was blocked with a Blocking Card. Now you need to use the Blocking Card again to unblock the lock.

Also, if this room has been blocked to take it out of service, maybe assign the guest to another room.

@madison-hart Yes, you are right. Our Hotel staff used the Blocking card to lock the room from being allocated to guests due to a power problem inside the room. This problem has now been resolved, thank you very much.
